This is D'Party Supply.
D’Party Supply was formed in 2009 by Jason Wong and Sharon Kaur, a married couple who are now blessed with 3 beautiful children. They started their services with banquet set up - chair c overs and table cloth rental for formal and informal functions in Kota Kinabalu area. In 2010, they expanded their services with Mascots rental, Wedding Set Up and Balloon Decorations.
In the beginning, they were a home based operation, using personal vehicles as transportation. Today, they have officially opened their first shop in Plaza 333 selling balloons, costumes, party accessories, rentals and a wide variety of party services.
Who has inspired you to start this business?
Our children. They have inspired us in many ways. Loving them has trained us on how to cherish other people’s children. From there, It motivates us to make a child’s party as nice as possible. The work of foreign event planners was also our inspiration when we first started. Their way of conducting and setting up an event opened up our mind to doing something differently here.
Our friends and families, were really supportive since the beginning. They helped us spread. Some of them even gave us a chance to provide our services for their own parties when we first started. From there, we learned and it really motivates us.
How do you ensure that your work and services are up to a standard?
Always put yourself in other peoples’ shoes. That will help you to do things seriously. We learned from mistakes and we still do today.
You have just recently opened your shop at Plaza 333, how is the progress?
So far so good. We have lots of return customers, which a good indicator for us. Actually we are in the middle of training our staff to understand all of our products, so that we are able to provide better understanding to our customers and be able to give them creative suggestions on how to use our products to DIY your own party. I hope it goes well.
How is the demand in terms of services that you offer? How do you feel about it?
It’s great! We have functions to set up almost every week and we enjoy doing it. We have been receiving inquiries via Facebook, whatsapp and email every day. It is awesome. To have a chance to experience operating from home with a small storage with leakages everywhere, and to be able to open a small shop today is something that is really meaningful to us and will keep us growing.
How do you feel with the increasing number of Party Planners in town today?
Honestly, we are still learning from others, it doesn’t matter if it is from a company that has been formed for years or has just started, we respect each other’s work We have to admit that we admire most of their work, which inspires us to improve ourselves.
